The theory of ego can be the root of all evil. It can suck you in faster than quick sand and spit you out just as expeditiously.
Ego sometimes sucks but without ego there wouldn’t be balance. Truth be told, ego itself is not negative or positive. It’s what you think that determines if you are aligning with the negative or positive. Think about it almost like a balance of good and bad or positive and negative. You experience the dark days so that you are grateful for the days filled with love, light, and happiness. But fear not, you can overcome the stronghold of your own ego if your days have become more BLAH than AHA!
For years, and once in a while still to this day, I find myself believing that my husband, children, new pair of jeans, or a new book will make me happy. However, I’ve realized that I need to stop looking for others to make me happy because I, along with you, are looking in the wrong places. Everything is inside of only YOU: your hangups, resentments, judgments, and fears along with your greatness, love, and faith.
Ego is technically a person’s sense of their own self-esteem. Your self-importance, self-acceptance, and identity. It’s the caught in the middle mindset of conscious versus unconscious thinking. It’s all of our beliefs that make us who we are over a lifetime and it’s constantly changing.
Really its hard to spot because it hides behind judgments that we believe to be true. It can sneak up on us and before we know it we are acting out of fear; being defensive and aggressive. Typically in any situation you first hear your intuitive voice suggesting a course of action, soon after you will hear what sounds like the same voice giving you alternative courses of action. EGO has arrived! It has had time to catch up to the situation at hand and figure out what is best for ego.
Let’s put things into perspective! Think about the source of any of your anxieties, fears, or negative self talk. I can bet on it that 80% of them have to do with the future, right? For example, If I don’t get this raise, then…” Or, What if I never fall in love? Or even, What if the babysitter doesn’t show up? But here’s the catch, the future doesn’t exist anywhere but in your mind.
All these future events you are worrying about? They do not exist. So when you start worrying or having anxiety about the list of possibilities that could happen, STOP and start thinking positive! Worrying and letting ego take over is a waste of your time and energy.
Let it go! Quit letting it take stronghold over you and your mindset. When I say this, I mean literally just let it go. Do not try to get rid of it because, remember, anything you fight against (or are negative about) you are making more concrete in you and are drawing more of that into you. So, just let it go. I have a good friend that says, “Put it in the fuck it bucket!”
Spot on sister!
